  18.  Due to request, I am posting 2 newspaper clippings that appeared in
  19.  the  Roswell Daily Record on July 8, 1947.

  21.          ROSWELL HARDWARE MAN AND WIFE REPORT DISK SEEN.

  23.  Mr. and Mrs. Sam White apparently were the only persons living in
  24. Roswell  who have seen what they thought was a flying disk. 
  25.  
  26.  They were sitting on their porch at 105 North Foster last Wednesday 
  27. night at about ten minutes before ten o'clock when a large glowing
  28. object  zoomed out of the sky from the southeast, going in a
  29. northwesterly direction  at a high rate of speed. 
  30.  
  31.  White called Mrs. White's attention to it and both ran down into the
  32. yard  to watch. It was in sight less than a minute, perhaps forty or
  33. fifty seconds,  White estimated. 
  34.  
  35.  White said that it appeared to him to be about 1,500 feet high and
  36. going fast. He estimated between 400 and 500 miles per hour.

  38.  In appearance, it looked oval in shape like two inverted saucers
  39. faced mouth  to mouth, or two old-type washbowls placed together in
  40. the same fashion. The  entire body glowed as though light were showing
  41. through from the inside,  though  not like it would be if a light were
  42. merely underneath.

  44.  From where he stood White said that the object looked to be about 15
  45. feet in  size and making allowance for the distance it was from town
  46. he figured that  it must have been 15 or 20 feet in diameter, though
  47. this was just a guess.

  49.  The object came into view from the southeast and disappeared over the
  50. treetops in the general vicinity of Six-Mile Hill.  White, who is one
  51. of the most respected and reliable citizens in town, kept the story to
  52. himself hoping someone else would come out and tell about having seen
  53. one, but finally today decided he would go ahead and tell about seeing
  54. it.

  56.         ARMY AIR FORCE CAPTURES FLYING DISK IN ROSWELL REGION 
  57.                No Details of Flying Disk are Revealed

  59.  The intelligence office of the 509th Bombardment Group at Roswell
  60. Army Air  Force Base announced at noon today that the field had come
  61. into possession  of a flying saucer. 
  62.  
  63.  According to information released by the department, over authority
  64. of Maj.  D. O. Gray, intelligence officer, the disk was recovered on a
  65. ranch in the  Roswell vicinity, after and unidentified rancher had
  66. notified Sheriff Geo.   Wilcox, here, that he had found the instrument
  67. on his premises.

  69.  Major Gray and a detail from his department went to the ranch and
  70. recovered  the disk, it was stated.

  72.  After the intelligence office here had inspected the instrument it
  73. was  loaned to "higher headquarters."

  75.  The intelligence office stated that no details of the saucer's
  76. construction  or it's appearance had been revealed.
